Haunting Grey (in broken meter)
I reach out to clasp your hand
"It's cold as a corpse" you say.
It falls to the side, like the rest of you will,-
-in memories, fade away.
I no longer sense in your easy eyes
A hush that holds the darkness at bay
Only a whisper of winter that's come
amidst the welcome warmth of day
The smirk I read in the raise of your brow
Is long-gone, now replaced
By a flock of storm-clouds that gather round
and hints of haunting grey
I was once foretold that tides may turn
That trust is a fool's bargain
That the mark of a kiss may as well burn
When the lipstick is laced with poison
I bury my friends in a tangled web
Of hashtags and forgotten passwords
Between the dread of dotted lines,
the funeral of now seen and last-heards.
